Une Villa en Urgence (The Emergency Villa) has just launched Un camion en Urgence (the Emergency Truck), an innovative and one-of-a-kind concept which would enable hosting 4,800 homeless people within a few weeks !
We still lack an association to manage them.

While the Une Villa en Urgence project is gaining momentum and is gathering around modular housing solutions for climate refugees, among others, the Association HOME 311 Tabary Le Lay – chaired by both the designers and interior designers Jean-Charles LE LAY and Frédéric TABARY- has just launched the Un camion en Urgence project, in partnership with various big bosses and political figures.
Aim of the operation: to create an emergency overnight shelter for homeless people from refrigerated boxes, and initially to provide two trailers from January 2018, to demonstrate the viability of the concept.
The ambition is to be able to shelter up to 4,800 people within a few months !

 

 

Genesis of the project

"This Saturday morning, December the 2nd, a 57-year-old man died in the street and more than 500 people suffered the same fate in 2016 ! Based on this terrible report, so was born the idea for Un Camion en Urgence.

The aim is to offer a real accommodation solution, whose principle, like the one of Une Villa en Urgence, is still based on the recycling of sealed and insulated refrigerated-trucks, which in this case makes it possible to to build in just a few days a trailer-housing for 12 people ", declares Frédéric Tabary who, in collaboration with his partner Jean-Charles Le Lay, chairs the Home 311 Tabary Le Lay association.

 

"While we were discussing about Une Villa En Urgence with our different partners, it seemed obvious to us that we could make our concept of housing in the short or medium term available to organizations that help the homeless on a daily basis, knowing that several hundred trailers/lorries could be available in a very short period of time", he adds.

 

Home 311 Tabary Le Lay, who works actively with the world of transport on the subject of people displaced around the world (climate or war refugees, natural disasters refugees) as part of the project Villa emergency, noted in parallel that Homeless people continue to die on the street ... As the discussions progressed, the idea arose of using and transforming refrigerated truck trailers - also already sealed and insulated - to create emergency trucks, mobile, robust, modular, adaptable and very easily achievable in record time!

 

It should be known that today, the drastic European phytosanitary standards imply that thousands of refrigerated trailers of more than 12 years old (only!) leave the continent to pollute landfills in Africa.

That is why, with the support of the leaders of the transport companies partners, it seemed possible to offer a second life - and of great utility! - to these trailers, while at the same time providing a solution to the question of their recycling, which until now had been suspended.

 

 

 

 

 

20,000 euros per truck : solidarity is on the move! Still a community manager to be found

 

"These boxes of trucks perfectly insulated and easily transformable in passive habitat solution will be equipped with 12 beds, showers, toilets and sinks. We also envisage that the main trailer should be accompanied by a smaller trailer, so that the accompanying animals can also sleep warm, a necessary condition for some homeless people, "says Frédéric Tabary.

 

It is conceivable to build hundreds of trailers over the next few months for an extremely low cost: 20,000 euros of financing is needed per truck, to provide a real habitat that will last in time.

To do this, Home 311 Tabary Le Lay had the idea to suggest to the bosses of the 1000 largest French companies to mobilize, and each to participate up to 20,000 euros (cost of a truck).

 

To date, and subject that one or more associations will undertake to manage these mobile habitats, two big bosses are willing to be part of the adventure !

One of them is even ready to make a media intervention, so that the other 998 leaders would follow him in this solidarity action !

 

The names of these two benefactors will be announced as soon as an association takes over to manage the lorries Camions en Urgence and can offer them throughout the territory to organizations and municipalities who want to find a quick, reliable and free response to the problem of homeless.

 

 

 

 

A location, a truck-trailer, 12 sheltered people !

 

Of course, land plots are needed to receive the truck-trailers, which must be connected to the water and electricity networks and the sewer lines of the cities.

The Home 311 Tabary Le Lay association therefore requests the help of the french municipalities to do this, so that the elected officials of the cities concerned make available adequate locations (the trailers are 13m long X 2m50 wide X 2m60 high, the running gear in addition).

 

Of course, donations from individuals are also welcome to finance other emergency trucks and the solidarity and ecological project of the Home 311 Tabary Le Lay association, which is a first of its kind, has the ambition to be developed throughout Europe and the rest of the world !
